…Led by two of Henry Hensche’s advanced students, Hilda Neily and Rob Longley, the Cape School of Art held its second annual fundraising auction in October. The CSA hopes to one day purchase its own building to house the school. The auction featured work by CSA instructors, as well as “Friends of the Cape School of Art” including Glenna Hartwell, Margaret McWethy, Camille Przewodek, John Ebersberger, John Clayton, Nancy Graham, Mary Giammarino, Andree Tullier, MP Landis, Pasquale Natale, Midge Battelle and Dorothy Palanza.
In December, Palanza and Tina Trudel invited Natale to curate “Getting to Zero: Artists Respond to World AIDS Day” at their Art Current gallery in Provincetown. Art by Provincetown kindergartners and some junior and senior class members joined the work of established artists focusing on the theme of getting to zero new AIDS infections. The show featured pieces by Frank Vasello, Maghi Geary, Jay Critchley, Jack Pierson, Maryalice Johnston and others.
Earlier in spring Palanza and Trudel also led the effort to launch the new green arts festival called “Appearances,” working with the Provincetown Conservation Trust. By all accounts, it was a great success.
Ongoing efforts to keep the art community thriving year-round were further bolstered by the inaugural season of Provincetown 10 Days of Art Festival launched in September by Ewa Nogiec of Gallery Ehva and the website www.10daysofart.org. The festival promoted exhibits, lectures, workshops demonstrations at galleries and museums all over town…
